Why all the fuss about privacy? 
Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis defined privacy as "the right to be let alone." After browsing in a store (without buying anything) would you want that store to start pestering you with offers seemingly out of the blue? That is along the lines of what we're talking about here.
